Songs and Games
Songs and games are an important part of having fun at tribal meetings and outings. Children look forward to and enjoy these times together. Dads find that playing games with their sons provides an excellent opportunity to understand their child better. These songs are special to the Y-Indian Guide Programs. They can be used to help forge a strong identity among tribal members and reinforce the Y-Indian Guide Programs' aims.
Pals Forever:
Pals Forever
(Tune: "Clementine")
Pals Forever, Pals Forever,
That's our slogan, that's our song.
Boys are stronger, dads feel younger
When they take the boys along.
Moms are for it, dads adore it,
And the boys all think it's fine.
Pals Forever, Pals Forever,
As Indian Guides we'll have good times.
Through the days and through the years
We will wander side by side.
Pals forever, Pals Forever,
The Great Spirit is our guide.
Do Lord:
(1)
I've got a heavenly father who hears and answers prayers.
I've got a heavenly father who hears and answers prayers.
I've got a heavenly father who hears and answers prayers.
Look away beyond the blue.
(chorus to repeat after each verse)
Do, Lord, oh do Lord, oh do remember me.
Do, Lord, oh do Lord, oh do remember me.
Do, Lord, oh do Lord, oh do remember me.
Look away beyond the blue.
(2)
You can't wear the crown if you don't bear the cross.
(3)
I took Jesus as my Savior, you take him, too.
(4)
I've got a heavenly Father who hears and answers prayers.
If he is right the game is over; if not, play continues until all participants are dead or until "it" has been caught.
Do Your Ears Hang Low?:
Do your ears hang low?
(thumbs in each ear)
Do they wobble to and fro?
(shake palms together)
Can you tie them in a knot?
(tie knot)
Can you tie them in a bow?
(tie bow at neck)
Can you throw them over your shoulder
Like a continental soldier?
(salute)
Do your ears hang low?
(repeat three times faster and faster)
Kum Bi Ya:
(1)
Someone's cryin', Lord, Kum bi ya.
Someone's cryin', Lord, Kum bi ya.
Someone's cryin', Lord, Kum bi ya.
O Lord, Kum bi ya.
(chorus to be repeated after each verse)
Kum bi ya, my Lord, Kum bi ya.
Kum bi ya, my Lord, Kum bi ya.
Kum bi ya, my Lord, Kum bi ya.
Oh Lord, Kum bi ya.
(2)
Someone's prayin', Lord, Kum bi ya.
(3)
Someone's laughin', Lord, Kum bi ya.
(4)
Someone's singin', Lord, Kum bi ya.
If You're Happy :
(1)
If you're happy and you know it,
Clap your hands.
(clap, clap)
If you're happy and you know it,
Clap your hands.
(clap, clap)
If you're happy and you know it,
And you really want to show it,
If you're happy and you know it,
Clap your hands.
(clap, clap)
(2)
If you're happy and you know it,
Stomp your feet.
(stomp, stomp)
(3)
If you're happy and you know it,
Shout "Hooray.".
(Hooray)
(4)
If you're happy and you know it,
Do all three.
(clap, stomp, hooray)
Prayer Song :
(Tune: "On Top of Old Smokey")
We come to the campfire,
Big braves with their boys.
"Pals Forever" our slogan,
We share many joys.
May the Great Spirit help us
To be clean, brave and true
To families and neighbors
In all that we do.
