Decision to Expand

The Board members’ first ideas for the Y were grand, as they started with the idea of an entirely new facility. The Winfield Consulting Group’s study explored the potential for a new facility, researched satisfaction among the community with the existing YMCA, calculated membership forecasts, explored the priorities of respondents for a YMCA facility, etc. Many months were spent reviewing the results of the study, analyzing current and future programming needs, inspecting the existing facility and preparing budget projections. This work led to the development of a building plan that is fiscally prudent, family oriented, mindful of the needs of current and prospective members, and efficient.

The Board of Directors, working closely with the architects and planners, gave the highest priority to the planning of an expanded facility necessary to meet the full range of changing program needs as well as mechanical efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The Board is pursuing a capital campaign goal of $7 million to renovate the existing facility and add to it on land to the east of the current site. Renovation and expansion of the YMCA will overcome existing obstacles and expenses, and will lay the groundwork for future growth.
