Consequences of Not Expanding

There are consequences of not doing this project. Simply, the YMCA will not be able to share its work and perform its mission for as large a cross-section of the community and will not be able to serve as many people as need access to its programs.

  • Children will be limited in the programs in which they may participate.
  • Teens will not have a space just for them that is safe, healthy and supervised where they are welcomed to spend their “dangerous” free time.
  • Not as many families will have a place with open arms where they may go as a unit and be with each other and their friends to enjoy physical fitness, play and learning.
  • There will be further deterioration of a downtown Midland facility that was once the foundation of this community. An economic development tool for all of Midland will be lost.
  • Operating costs will continue to increase. The plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems will continue to age. The budget will be tapped with expensive replacements and repairs and higher maintenance costs due to obsolescence of parts and materials. This will result in less money available to serve the children and families who participate in Y programs.
